Denbighshire U-turn on wind farm

Councillors have made an U-turn by backing plans for a windfarm on moorland above Cerrigydrudion but refusing another – just a mile apart.

At the meeting of Denbighshire’s full council today, officers had recommended to councillors that they should approve the two separate applications for windfarms on land near Nantglyn.

However, one, near Llyn Brenig was granted and the other – Gorsedd Bran – was refused

Both applications were previously refused by members of Denbighshire planning committee three weeks ago on the grounds of noise, flooding and landscape amenity after concerns from residents.

Those were the same grounds why the Gorsedd Bran application was refused today.

Shadow Environment Minister and Clwyd West AM Darren Millar said: “The decision to grant planning for the Llyn Brenig wind farm is a shocking u-turn by Denbighshire County Council, although at least they have seen sense over the Gorsedd Bran application.

“The vast majority of local residents do not support either of the proposals and will feel betrayed by this decision today.”
