Tassie wind farm plan revived

Long standing plans for a major Tasmanian wind farm have been revived, thanks to the increase in Australia’s renewable energy target.

Company Roaring 40s shelved the 140 megawatt project back in 2006, but now says construction of the Musselroe farm near Launceston will start within months.

Managing director Mark Kelleher says the new Federal Government policy will increase demand for wind power.

“The Rudd Government’s policy was to bring in a 20 per cent renewable energy requirement by 2020” he said.

“This is a fantastic initiative that puts Australia back up in the front of the pack internationally with their support for clean energy and addressing climate change. And this policy pretty much assures that Musselroe will be able to proceed.”
