An application for a 203ft wind turbine on Tiree has been recommended for refusal by Argyll and Bute Council’s head of planning Angus Gilmour.
Councillors from the Oban, Lorn and the Isles area committee will meet at An Talla Hall, Scarinish, Tiree, tomorrow at 7.30pm to consider the application.
Tiree Renewable Energy Ltd hopes to erect the 850kw turbine and transformer kiosk at Ruaig Sliabh. There have been 30 letters in support of the plan and 19 in opposition.
The Tiree Community Development Trust has submitted a letter in support of the application, saying it has been developed following extensive consultations with residents, but in a report to councillors, Mr Gilmour writes: “The application is at odds with the windfarm policy’s stated aims of protecting the environment because it is likely to have a seriously detrimental impact upon the landscape in Tiree.”
