Ecological outrages on Kaliakra biodiversity spot in Bulgaria continue

Bulgarian Organization for Bird Protection entered in the European Commission new complaint in relation with NATURA 2000, money.bg shared.

The complaint has been supported by 12 more organizations and civil associations with attitude towards the fate of Bulgarian nature.

The complaint entering is the serial attempt for ceasing the destruction of Kaliakra – a place emblematic for Bulgarian nature and historical spot, stated eco-protectors.

You may see the current situation on Kaliakra on the two photos.

The complaint proves through documents, pictures and maps the destruction and damages caused by building projects for wind parks and other constructions.

The systematical disturbances of three European directives are described in the document send to the EC.

The directives are: for the birds, for natural inhabitant places and for environmental value of the landscape.

On Kaliakra are totally destroyed unique nature places. In the last couple of weeks appeared the bases of 29 vanes, part of wind-energy park of Inos 1.

The territory is located on the very same place of Via Pontica and is included in NATURA 2000 network.

Kaliakra is ornithology important place and potential part of the ecology network since 2005.

For a period of 3 years (2004-2007), there are received 196 suggested investments for constructions and wind parks.

Extremely significant is that neither one of the projects has been put under ecology value for compatibility, which is absolutely obligatory for investment projects in NATURA 2000 zones.

This is the second complaint that the Ornithology society enters in EC in relation to the outrages in the NATURA zones.

“The natural value of Kaliakra is undeniable. The outrages here are unprecedented and most probably the EC will set in motion a penalty procedure against out country. The sanctions are financial and will be taken by every Bulgarian tax-payer, and not by the investors who raise vanes in the NATURA areas.”
