Resident to hand in wind-farm petition

An Ironstone Road resident is set to hand in an 800-strong petition from furious neighbours as the row over wind farms rolls on.

Reginald Turvey is to forward the petition to Cannock Chase District Council, amid claims that many residents around Chase Terrace knew nothing about the proposals until it was too late to act.

“One of the reasons we started this petition was that Cannock Council had supposedly sent all residents letters telling them of these proposals…well, we have now found out that many residents did not know anything about it at all,” Reginald told The Post.

“We are not against wind farms. Indeed, we are very aware of the importance of climate change and our need to protect our environment.

“Our objections are the turbines being so close to housing estates.

“Cllr Bob Merry of Heath Hayes (who supported the application) said that for objectors, it was a case of ‘not in my back garden’. But it IS in our back garden, and not in his. It would be interesting what his comment would then be if the original proposals of the farm being sited nearer the Heath Hayes area had taken place.

“This wind farm site would be 800 metres from Stables Way and Ironstone Road. This would certainly be a blot on our rural landscape.

“There would also be problems with vibration (a sub-audible, lowfrequency sound), as well as wildlife issues. We also believe we would see a reduction in our house prices.”
