Upper Lachlan Shire Council will seek an explanation “in detail” of why the developers of the Taralga Wind Farm want to increase the height of the turbines from 110 metres to 131.5 metres.
And Council also wants the developer (RES Southern Cross) to demonstrate it has access to the National Electricity Grid, as Council has some doubts that this has been established.
Council’s requirements will be included in a submission it will make on Southern Cross’s application with the Land and Environment Court.
Southern Cross wants to increase the height of the turbines from the approved 110 metres to 131.5 metres.
This would increase the maximum rotor blade diameter from 90 metres to 103 metres.
Submissions to the Court had to be placed by last Friday, which gave Council just one day following its meeting at Bigga on Thursday.
In its submission, Council will also make the following points:
1. The extremely short period of public consultation (from January 30 to February 15) which limited the preparation of comprehensive submissions.
2. The increased height of the structures may necessitate aviation warning lights which would then be significantly different to the original application – in accordance with requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
3. Inclusion of a condition requiring the application to contribute to a Community Enhancement Program in accordance with Council’s Development Control Plan on Wind Farm Generation.
