Wind turbine plan for Pontyclun

A 70-metre high wind mast could soon line the sky of Pontyclun.

L’Oreal, which lies on Lanelay Road, are proposing that an anemometer, which records wind speed and direction, is placed on a grassed area of land sandwiched between its factories.

They are seeking permission to place the mast there for an initial period of 18-months and said: “The purpose of the development is to determine whether a wind turbine is a technically viable position at the site.

“If this application is permitted and it’s found that a wind turbine at the site is a possibility, then a further planning application would obviously be required for the erection of the turbine.”

The council has said that details of the colour of the mast and the security fencing need to be ironed out before any construction goes ahead.
