'Seven days to save our countryside'

The chairman of a campaign group fighting a windfarm plan warned: “We’ve got seven days to save our countryside”.

The deadline for public comments to the planning application by Npower Renewables to build a nine-turbine windfarm at Ballindalloch Muir is Friday, February 22.

Endrick Valley Action Group (EVAG) chairman Gordon Adams said: “This windfarm would be far too close to where people live and the effect on our scenic landscape would be catastrophic.

“From the end of this week we have seven days to save our countryside.

“I would urge people to send objections to the windfarm planning application to Stirling Council as it is the only way the community can have its voice heard on this issue.

“Many of the local community councils have already backed EVAG’s campaign to stop the development and it is clear there is a groundswell of opinion against the windfarm being built in the heart of this scenic area.”

EVAG says the turbines would have a negative visual impact on Stirlingshire’s scenic landscape and protected areas are a threat to the local environment and wildlife, especially protected species, would create noise and disturbance and require access roads that would cut a swathe through the landscape.

Npower Renewables strenuously denied the claimed, saying it has continuously followed strict guidelines and legislation and adhered to stringent criteria when drawing up the plans. It also says it carried out extensive consultation with locals from the outset in a bid to glean an even spread of opinion over a widespread age group and demographic.

The campaign group is organising a public exhibition on Sunday between 2-4.30pm in Buchlyvie Village Hall.
