A company planning a new wind farm near March has been warned its impact “is likely to be significant” and it will face a tough time in winning approval.
The warning comes from Caroline Rachlin, principal planning officer for Fenland District Council.
She told Ecogen which plans to build the wind farm at Boardinghouse Farm, Knights End Road, that the council would require an in-depth environmental assessment report.
“I am sure that you will appreciate that the Fen landscape is somewhat unique and it may be that the landscape has accommodated sufficient wind turbines from a visual perspective,” she told the company.
She added: “This matter needs to be the subject of significant thought within any submission.”
Ms Rachlin also warned Ecogen that the council had commissioned a wind turbine landscape and capacity study which could have significant implications for the project.
Council leader, Councillor Geoff Harper would not comment on the application, but said he had raised the issue many times recently as to whether Fenland Council had done its bit for renewable energy.
