Go-ahead for 50m mast

A temporary 50 metre meteorological mast in Great Broughton has been given the go-ahead.

Members of Allerdale’s development panel meeting agreed this week on the installation of the instrument which will assess wind speed at Broughton Lodge.

Objections had been received from Broughton parish council, who said it would affect the visual impact and be a hazard for low flying aircraft.

Broughton Moor, Dearham and Bridekirk parish councils also raised concerns, saying west Cumbria was becoming saturated with wind farms.

A 50metre anemometry mast was also approved for a site at Flimby Hall, in Flimby.

Plans were amended to erect it for 18 months to gather wind speed and direction information.
