A petition for a referendum on wind turbine zoning regulations was certified by the Champaign County Board of Elections on Tuesday.
According to Bob Hamilton, with the Board of Elections, the petition circulated by Union Neighbors United met all requirements for getting a referendum placed on the Nov. 4 ballot.
He said it is the board’s job to evaluate each signature and since the petition had roughly twice the amount of signatures needed, it passed easily.
At this point the responsibility of deciding whether or not to accept the Union Township trustees’ decision falls to the Union Township registered voters.
