Council hopes to discuss wind turbines with MOE

“We’ll make some [wind turbine setback] decisions at our first meeting in March,” said ACW Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek.

Council requested at their Feb. 5 meeting, to meet with Minister of the Environment John Gerretsen, or a Parliamentary Assistant during the OGRA/ROMA Conference Feb. 24 and 25. They intend to make a last attempt to get to the bottom of the noise debate that has caused council to hold off on passing any definitive setback restrictions in the municipality.

ACW is requesting a meeting with the ministry and various parties involved with the recent van den Berg report study completed in done by the MOE in 2007.

All members of council, excluding Marilyn Miltenburg, will attend the conference in Toronto. Upon their return, they hope to pass a final bylaw at the March 4 meeting of council.

“We don’t know at this point what the decision will be, but we’re prepared to move on this in March,” said Van Diepenbeek. “It’s been a long time coming.”
