Wind turbines plan before council

A bid to build five giant wind turbines at a former Notts colliery site will go before councillors today.

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning officers have recommended approval of the 100m high turbines at the former Bilsthorpe Colliery site and Stonish Hill, near Eakring, near Ollerton.

The council turned down similar plans for seven turbines in 2006 – but developers Harworth Power and Eakring Farming have since reapplied.

Residents living near the two sites have objected to the plans. They have complained about the visual impact and noise of the plans as well as their failure to meet planning regulations.

A meeting of Newark and District Council’s planning committee will decide the fate of the plans this afternoon.
