Wind farm proposals are rejected

Controversial plans for a wind farm in Nottinghamshire have been rejected for a second time.

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning committee turned down proposals for five turbines despite officers recommending their approval.

Harworth Power, the company behind the plans, said it was extremely disappointed and was yet to decide whether to appeal.

Villagers from Eakring and Bilsthorpe vigorously opposed the development.

The wind farm project was rejected on the grounds of visual intrusion and the impact on a nearby conservation area.

Planners rejected original proposals for seven turbines in November 2006.

At the time one of the major objections was from the Ministry of Defence in Lincolnshire, which said the turbines would interfere with radar equipment.
