Villagers have vowed to fight a planned windfarm in Mid Wales which they fear will dwarf their village.
The Save Trannon Moor Action Group is concerned about plans for a farm with 10 turbines, each seven times the height of Trefeglwys Church.
At the latest action group meeting, chairman Selby Martin said, although members recognised the need to combat global warming and supported renewable energy in the right place and by the right methods, wind power was “inefficient”.
He said the group’s argument was with the UK government and the Welsh Assembly for promoting an energy system which was “ruining the countryside” and not with local landowners who were paid to allow turbines on their land and whose position was “understandable”.
Mr Martin outlined the group’s objections to the scheme from Spanish developer Acciona for the site close to Trefeglwys and Llawryglyn.
They included devastation of the landscape by the 377ft turbines which would intrude on the landscape for miles around, the impact on wildlife and noise that could have a serious impact on residents’ health causing nausea, stress, depression and headaches.
Acciona will give two presentations on their proposal, in Trefeglwys on February 25 and Carno on February 27. A formal planning application on the scheme is expected in the coming weeks.
