Farmers angry about wind farm 'land grab'

Four landholders north of Broken Hill stand to lose 75,000 acres of land if a proposed wind farm goes ahead.

Initial negotiations between the landholders and wind energy developer, Epuron, centred around royalties being paid to the landholders.

But landholders have been told that, under a section of the Western Lands Act of NSW, their land can withdrawn without payment.

Ross Andrews, from the Pastoralists’ Association of West Darling, says the four graziers in question will lose more than just their land.

“I’ve also been informed there seems to be three of the homesteads that are involved in this acquisition, which leaves the graziers in a very awakard situation for their future”, he says.

“It’s certainly an odd one and it certainly looks on the face of it that government are looking to acquire some dollars”.
