From both ends of the state, the message is the same – No to the use of public lands for industrial wind generation. The attendance by the citizens at the public hearing held at Garrett College on Wednesday evening was extraordinary, both in the number of citizens that attended and the testimony given. In fact, I heard the comment made that it was the largest citizen turnout ever for a public hearing in Garrett County.
Let me just say, as citizens, friends, and neighbors of this wonderful county, you pulled together to let Governor O’Malley know how impassioned you are that it is not an appropriate use of public lands for industrial wind generation. For that, I say thank you to all those showing your support.
I also traveled to Annapolis to attend the public hearing on Thursday. No fewer than 50 of your friends and neighbors took the time to travel to Annapolis to attend the hearing. The message to Governor O’Malley was the same, a resounding no to the use of public lands for industrial wind generation.
The word windmill conjures up images of a tall three-legged metal tower, with a gentle turning pinwheel pumping water from my grandfather’s well on the farm. Make no mistake, the turbines for wind generation are not windmills. They are 440-foot-tall massive whirling three-blade monstrosities that produce very little power, and what power is produced will be shipped out of state into other power grids.
The people have spoken! Special thanks to all for your support. I wish to personally thank Secretary Griffin and all others who have listened and are now charged with the duty of delivering the message to Governor O’Malley. We oppose, we oppose, we oppose! The answer is NO!
