Sierra Club not on developers' side

Although I did not see it for myself, I understand that the wind industry’s representative, Frank Maisano, arrived wearing a Sierra Club hat at the DNR hearing at Garrett College.

Sierra Club hats have been available to the general public in times past, and our membership is open to anyone, as we are a volunteer-driven, democratically oriented organization.

I want to clarify that the Sierra Club was not on the side of the wind industry developers that night. Indeed, several of our volunteers were in the audience and some even spoke.

It was great to see the number of folks who came out to speak against this poorly planned proposal. Wind speed data suggests that the only areas suitable for wind power during the summer months (when it is really needed) are in the southern Chesapeake Bay and off the coast of Ocean City.
