Madden to consider Oaklands wind farm plan

Victorian Planning Minister Justin Madden has to decide whether the Oaklands wind farm should be built 15 kilometres south of the Grampians National Park, in the state’s south-west.

The planning panel hearings wrapped up last week and an independent report should be presented to the Minister in a couple of months.

Lights are needed on 27 of the 43 wind turbines because of their height.

The president of the Grampians Glenthompson Landscape Guardians, Judy Vanrennan, says her group remains adamant the project should not go ahead.

“This particular one is so close to the Grampians National Park, we don’t know what sort of effect it will have on the flora and fauna,” she said.

“Even if you put all these conditions on there’s a huge cost of administering the conditions and we know our local Southern Grampians Shire doesn’t have the resources for that. It would place a lot of pressure on government departments.”
