The Garrett County Republican Central Committee has voiced its opposition to a proposal to construct wind turbines on state property.
“Governor (Martin) O’Malley’s proposed plan not only will destroy one of Maryland’s last untouched treasures, but it also seeks to cut out the public’s input into the mater,” said Brandon Butler, chairman of the Garrett County Republican Central Committee.
“The debate on Governor O’Malley’s move for windmills in Western Maryland does not hinge on the merits of wind-generated electricity or energy self-sufficiency,” Butler said in a recent committee newsletter. “The issue should, however, be a discussion on the giving away of public property to private corporations.”
“The Republican Party has always stood for property rights. What the governor is trying to do is just plain wrong,” said Ed Clemons, committee member.
