Time concern sees inquiry postponed

It Emerged last night that a public inquiry into a giant windfarm on Lewis will be postponed because the Scottish Government failed to give people sufficient time to register an interest in attending the hearing.

Government planners are concerned about the closeness of the proposed 53-turbine Muaitheabhal windpark on the privately-owned Eisgein Estate to a National Scenic Area.

A pre-inquiry meeting was scheduled for next Thursday at Stornoway, but many objectors complained that they had not had enough time to register to attend.

Campaigner John Macdonald said: “Very few people seem to have been sent notification letters. People lodged objections but they haven’t heard about the inquiry date.”

A government spokesman said: “If it transpires that many third parties have not been notified the Scottish Government will postpone the pre-meeting to ensure that all those with a view can be properly represented.”
