Destruction to pad pockets of wind turbine company

My wife and I have tremendous concern regarding the installation of the proposed wind turbines in Garrett County. We currently own 126 acres of rustic farmland adjoining the Savage River State Forest, and are planning to build a new home from which to run our home-based business. We are professional photographers, specializing in our images taken in some of the most beautiful locations nature can provide. Our work appears internationally in various publications.

The reason for our choice of location in Garrett County is the pristine beauty, solitude, and undisturbed habitat that this area of Maryland offers its residents, both two- and four-legged. Most of the people who come to this gorgeous area, and who generate tourism income, are drawn to its mountain vistas, cooler temperatures, and elegant beauty. They come for the same reasons we have – to escape the hustle, heat, and barrenness of the cities’ concrete jungles. Disturbing this landscape, as well as the state forest, will ultimately result in the financial “death” of our once much desired vacation and tourist location, not to mention the rapid decline of property values.

The other consideration is for those who come to Garrett County specifically to hunt. The loss of much of the state forest, belonging to Maryland’s citizens, will raise a major uproar and drive them away as well.

We looked forward to having an undisturbed parcel of land which we could pass down to our daughters and their families for generations to come, not to look out their window to see a skyline dotted with huge white “propellers,” but to be able to enjoy this land as God created and intended it. We are all for having alternatives to generate electricity, especially in a clean manner, as we are very environmentally conscious, but we do not feel that this move is in the best interest of Maryland’s residents, but rather to pad the pockets of a wind turbine company, owned by people who do not even reside there and who will not have to look daily at the destruction they have helped create.

Sincerely,

the Joseph Harrison family
