A MASS OF HUMANITY more than filled the auditorium of Garrett College last night, where the Maryland Department of Natural Resources hosted a public meeting in order to receive input on a proposal to permit the leasing of state forestland in Garrett County to wind-farm developers. The proposal would allow U.S. Wind Force, a Pennsylvania-based company, to erect approximately 100 450-foot-high wind turbines in Potomac and Savage River state forests. The great majority of the crowd, which numbered approximately 500, was in strong opposition to the proposal. A similar meeting will be held this evening in Annapolis. See story.
