Politician's fears over windfarm application

A North-east politician has voiced his concern over an application for a windfarm which has prompted the formation of two local campaign groups.

West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MSP Mike Rumbles is worried about the impact that the seven turbines proposed for a hill at Pressendye would have on the local landscape in Cushnie, near Tarland.

The MSP said: “Of course we should be promoting renewable energy in Scotland.

“This does not mean that developers can just put these industrial developments anywhere. They must be in appropriate locations.

“Pressendye is an area of outstanding natural beauty and a most inappropriate location for a windfarm in my opinion. It is of course up to our local councillors to determine planning applications, and I am sure they will take all factors into consideration when deciding on whether or not to approve this windfarm.”

The application for seven wind turbines at Cushnie was received by Aberdeenshire Council on Monday.

The 410ft structures will be visible to residents in both Tarland and Alford.

Tarland-based Stop On Pressendye (Stop) and neighbouring Cushnie Wind Action Group (CWAG) were formed to object to the application.
