Planning panel to hear more wind farm opposition

A planning panel will resume hearing evidence this week from opponents of a 43-turbine wind farm at Glenthompson, south of the Grampians in south-west Victoria.

The panel sat for 10 days before Christmas and will sit in Melbourne today.

Lights are needed on 27 of the turbines because of their height.

The president of the Grampians and Glenthompston Landscape Guardians group, Judy Vanrennan, says she is worried the lights will impact birds, animals and residents, especially at night.

“Particularly for animals, for wildlife and birds and bats and moving around at night, they’re going to be obviously … at threat,” she said.

“There’s a lot of lack of understanding of what these lights do to the environment, bearing in mind that this particular proposal is very close to the Grampians National Park.”
