Residents sound off on environmental impact of Cape Vincent wind project

A proposed wind farm in Cape Vincent is trying to clear environmental hurdles with the town planning board, but residents are worried they aren’t hearing the whole story.

More than 100 people spoke at a public hearing Saturday on the project’s environmental impact statement.

Concerns people had involved noise, danger to animals, and decreasing property values.

There are also legal concerns, but Town Supervisor Tom Rienbeck told the planning board not to let legal threats affect their decisions.

As it stands now, the project is in the planning board’s hands.

It has until the end of next month to approve an environmental impact statement before it can consider BP’s site plan.
