The Scottish Government is coming under increasing pressure to sort out the “planning mess” surrounding windfarms.
Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser wants ministers to come clean on whether they support a national or local guidance for the siting of onshore windfarm developments.
He is calling on the government to review national planning guidance on renewable energy developments and look at how to reduce the number of speculative applications for onshore windfarms.
Mr Fraser believes the current system is flawed and has led to developers submitting applications for sites in Perthshire and Stirling that should not have been considered for development.
Applications for sites that should be considered out of bounds has led to the waste of much time, money and resources by both planners, developers and opposition groups.
“We must see improvements to the current system as just now developers have no real guidelines as to where is an appropriate site for a windfarm,” Mr Fraser said.
