Stop the wind mills

Armenia Mountain – A wind farm project in the Northern Tier isn’t slowing down even though a local preservation group filed papers in court.

Members of the Tioga Preservation Group don’t want the wind mills near their area. To stop them from going up, the group filed an appeal against the Tioga County Planning Commission in Tioga County Court. Group members said they want the commission to take away the developer’s permit to begin construction.

The developer, AES, plans to put about 125 wind mills in the Armenia Mountain area of Tioga and Bradford counties. Member of the preservation group say wind mills are unsafe.

”It’s been proven worldwide that wind farms create health and safety problems. They are inefficient and they cost the taxpayers a lot of money” said Frank Piccolella from the preservation group.

The developer, AES, wouldn’t comment on the advantages and disadvantages of a wind farm. A spokesman told us to contact the county planning commission. But, our calls were not returned.

Group member said the judge’s decision whether to stop the project could take months. In the meantime, AES says work on the project will continue.
