Citizens' Rights and Heritage Group opposes turbines on state lands

Editor’s note: The writer of this letter to Gov. O’Malley asked that it be published in this column.

Dear Governor O’Malley,

We are writing you on behalf of the Citizens’ Rights and Heritage Group. The Citizens’ Rights and Heritage Group Inc. (CRHG) is a non-profit membership organization that seeks to protect citizens’ rights and heritage with regard to private and public land use in the state of Maryland. CRHG encourages and promotes the preservation of our heritage for future generations.

We understand that you have endorsed plans to construct industrial wind facilities on public land in Garrett County. Our organization seeks to preserve the ability of our citizenry to enjoy the use of our Maryland public lands in pursuit of outdoor heritage sports, including hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, camping, etc. We believe that these industrial wind facilities will infringe on our outdoor heritage. Our organization believes that the Department of Natural Resources along with our elected officials are duly responsible for protecting our public lands for its citizenry for which they have a fiduciary trust to protect for future generations.

CRHG is asking you to protect Maryland’s greatest natural resource and Maryland’s favorite outdoor playground by opposing any wind plant sites on our state lands.

Sincerely,

Jeffery Conner, president

Sid Turner, vice president
