Decision day looms for wind farm

A final decision on the proposed windfarm at Auchencorth Moss will be made by Midlothian councillors on Tuesday, February 12.

At last week’s planning committee, councillors agreed it was time to “take a decision one way or another” over E.ON (UK) Limited’s application for 18 turbines on open moor between Penicuik and West Linton.

Last month, the applicant and objectors put forward their respective arguments to planning committee members at a special hearing in Penicuik.

Officials have advised the committee that reports, addressing all issues, are ready for the committee’s consideration.

Councillors had been asked if they were prepared to determine the application at the February planning meeting or await the outcome of the ongoing Midlothian Local Plan inquiry.

Planning committee chairman Russell Imrie said: “I said at the meeting in Penicuik we would take a decision one way or another. I certainly favour getting the reports if they are ready and all outstanding issues can be reported on. I think sooner rather than later and should advise the applicant and objectors we will deal with it on February 12.

“The sooner we deal with it the better. If we deal with it the objectors and applicant will know exactly where this council stands.”
