The risk of flooding, which could be increased by wind farms developments, should be investigated before two crucial planning applications are green-lighted says a local AM.
WindPower Wales want to build 16 turbines, each 100 metres high, next to the existing Tir Mostyn site, near Nantglyn, which currently has 25 turbines.
Meanwhile Tegni Cymru Cyf want to construct 13 turbines, each 125 metres tall, towards the north west of the village boundary at Gorsedd Brân.
Both applications could be green-lighted by Denbighshire’s planning committee tomorrow (Wednesday).
But Clwyd West AM Darren Millar, shadow minister for environment and planning, says both developers should provide more information on potential flood risks before making any decisions.
He said: “There is growing evidence that existing wind farm developments in Denbighshire are contributing to increased flood risk in the county.
“I am very concerned that councillors on the planning committee are fully informed of the potential impact of these two wind farm developments on flooding in the area prior to making any decisions.
“It could be disastrous for homes and property in the area if these developments are permitted without proper flood consequence assessments, particularly for homes or property downstream of wind farms which have required any tree felling operations.”
He added: “There has been a great deal of flooding in North Wales since the summer – we must make sure that planning decisions are made which do not add to these problems.”
