Windfarm objectors are out in force

Around 200 people are believed to have opposed a windfarm planned for west Cumbria at a drop-in session held over the weekend.

Dearham parish council staged the event in the village hall on Saturday, which gave villagers from the surrounding area information about the Fleeter Wood scheme.

Novera Energy wants to build five 105metre high wind turbines on land next to West House.

But the parish council is strongly opposed to the scheme, fearing it will have a detrimental impact on the lives of people living in and around the village.

Those visiting the drop-in session were able to have a look at the company’s planning application and information about the possible effects of it.

Iris Walton, one of the organisers of the event, said: “There were quite a number of people that came – I would gauge throughout the day there were about 200.

“Most people who came were against it. I don’t think anyone came that wanted to argue with us. One of them said he thought windfarms were all right so long as they were off shore. I was glad to see quite a few young people came too.”
