Wind farm row over firm’s 'spin'

Opponents of the giant wind farm proposed for Lewis last night called on ministers not to be swayed by developers’ attempts to influence their decision on the project.

Yesterday developers Lewis Wind Power (Amec and British Energy) held press conferences in Edinburgh and Stornoway to announce an initial agreement with Edinburgh-based wind turbine manufacturer REpower UK to build most of the towers for the project.

The announcement could mean 50 much-needed jobs – on top of the 300 projected for the wind farm – but an RSPB Scotland said: “The press conference is simply an exercise in corporate spin to heap pressure on ministers so they will approve the damaging and controversial proposal.”
