Crown Estate rolls out energy panel plan

The Crown Estate is set to create its first-ever energy panel, a move that will give firms the opportunity to cash in on the Government’s groundbreaking renewable energy projects.

Panel firms could be involved in advising the Government on drafting enabling legislation and tender documents for the world’s largest offshore wind farm capacity, according to Crown Estate legal director Vivienne King.

A strong contender would be current panel member Anderson Strathern, given its experience advising the Crown Estate on the Scottish foreshore, as well as work for other clients on wind farm deals. Other panel firms include Bond Pearce, Burges Salmon, Forsters, Pemberton Greenish and SJ Berwin.

The organisation’s in-house team will also receive a boost with the recruitment of former Berwin Leighton Paisner associate Jane Dagnall, who joins the existing team of three on 21 January. Her new role will focus on the urban account. She will also be involved in the area of foreshore law to support the marine estate business.

The expansion of the Crown Estate’s internal capability marks the end of a long period of streamlining, which began with the legal team being slashed by half in the 1990s.
