Campaigners against a series of wind farms have been backed by a new website.
The site, www.savenorthdevon.com, which was officially launched yesterday, is the first in the Westcountry to provide one site for all the anti-wind farm campaigns in the area.
Creator Laura Holt said: “New opposition groups tend to set up their own web page, often duplicating efforts and spending a great deal of time collating and verifying information.
“This website removes this burden, linking new opposition groups with existing ones and providing a source of verified and credible information alongside a wealth of resources to help new action groups get up and running in a fraction of the time it would take otherwise.”
The site has been launched in the week that the Open Spaces Society and Exmoor National Park Authority both pledged their opposition to projects at Knowstone, North Devon, and Bickham Moor, near Oakford, Mid Devon.
The website states: “If you live in North Devon, and are not already in the shadow of a wind turbine, you soon could be.”
It is a fear shared by Bob Barfoot, chairman of the North Devon branch of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England.
He said: “We welcome any opportunity for the public to gather information from all sides of this debate.
“It is only by doing so that the public can make an informed judgement.”
The schemes being put forward for the North and Mid Devon sites have been proposed by Airtricty Developments and Coronation Power respectively.
Yesterday a Coronation Power spokesman said its plans would “generate enough power for 6,000 homes”.
