C-Free Power Corp., a renewable energy company focused on developing wind power and run-of-river hydropower projects in Western Canada, intends to apply for an investigative permit for wind power on a section of Crown land northwest of Prince George.
The 45-kilometre plot is situated between Eskers and Stuart River provincial parks.
“It’s very much a preliminary, regulatory stage they’re going through,” said Gord Humphrey of the Integrated Land Management Bureau.
If it gets past the initial stage, the company will then apply for small locations where they would erect temporary wind towers.
“I wouldn’t consider them to be terribly invasive, and they can often avoid taking down any vegetation,” Humphrey said. “It would be based on those results that they would decide whether they would want to consider a larger project, or they may just consider to collect more data. But any sort of what you’d call an industrial presence in an area like that, that’s quite a ways down the road.”
Humphrey added the Peace region is “a bit more advanced in its development of the resource.
“But I expect we will see more as time goes on and the need increases.”
