Two key legislators are skeptical of a new wind power group formed by Governor Sebelius.
House Speaker Melvin Neufeld, an Ingalls Republican, said today that the state needs to take a comprehensive look at its energy needs.
And Representative Carl Dean Holmes, a Republican from Liberal, noted that Sebelius formed a task force in 2004 to study development of wind farms in the scenic Flint Hills – and later urged caution. Holmes is chairman of the House Energy and Utilities Committee.
Sebelius announced today that she’s formed a 33-member Kansas Wind Working Group. She said its main task will be educating Kansans and interest groups about technology and the economics of wind.
The group will be led by Lieutenant Governor Mark Parkinson.
