How stupid do they think we are?

Broadview Energy Ltd has obtained 400 signatures of support for its proposal to erect a wind farm at Westnewton, from people in Workington (Times & Star, December 28).

How stupid do they think we are? Over 1700 letters (not just signatures) of objection have been written.

It wouldn’t be difficult to obtain 400 signatures in support of almost anything of you were to ask enough people in a place far enough away.

Even allowing that the 400 people feel strongly in favour of the wind farm, haven’t Broadview Energy weakened their own case by matching 400 signatures against 1,700 letters?

Another piece of obfuscation is the statement that the wind farm will generate enough clean energy to supply nearly 700 households a year.

I don’t see what ‘a year’ has got to do with it: surely they would be supplied continually.

Also, does the figure of 700 refer to the power that would be generated if the wind blew all the time or has the fact that, on average, it only blows about 30 per cent of the time, at suitable speeds, been taken into account?
