A scaled-down windfarm plan for the hills at Calliachar near Amulree has been submitted by I and H Brown Calliachar Limited.
In autumn 2006, a public local inquiry led to a Scottish Reporter throwing out a 27-turbine windfarm proposal on grounds of adverse visual impact on the scenic Glen Quaich and on Loch Freuchie, but the Reporter indicated in his findings that a reduced scheme would be acceptable.
I And H Brown’s revised plans lodged this week with Perth and Kinross Council show a windfarm of 14 turbines, substation, construction compound, borrow pits, access tracks and associated infrastructure on 222 hectares of upland grouse moor five miles to the south of Aberfeldy. Access will be from a track off the A826 Crieff-Aberfeldy road.
This revised application by the Perth-based company comprises the 14 most westerly turbines of the original planning application.
The planning application is supported by two substantial tomes of environment statement plus a supporting planning policy statement which includes an assessment of cumulative landscape and visual impacts of the Calliachar wind farm combined with the operation wind farm at Braes of Doune, the consented wind farm at Drumderg near Alyth and proposed windfarms at nearby Griffin Forest and Logiealmond.
