Plans for a controversial wind farm have taken a major step forward.
Infinergy Ltd is considering putting up seven turbines at Standish Cote, Marton.
On Tuesday, in a close vote, Barrow Borough Council’s planning committee granted the company permission to erect a temporary, 60-metre high wind measuring mast on the site.
Many residents had opposed the application.
However, most of the objections related to fears about the proposed wind farm.
The council stressed that allowing the mast would not amount to an agreement in principle to the wind farm.
It also denied claims the consultation process was “flawed”, saying that it was satisfied that it had met its statutory requirements.
