Al Fayed wind plan rejected

Businessman Mohamed Al Fayed has lost his fight to have a wind farm built on his central Sutherland estate.

Highland Council earlier this year rejected a proposal from power company Airtricity for a 23-turbine development on Fayed’s Invercassley Estate.

Airtricity’s appeal against that decision has been dismissed by the Scottish Government, it was revealed this week.

However, another wind farm in the Rosehall area – permission for which was also originally turned down by the local authority – has now got the go-ahead.

An appeal by Scottish and Southern Energy has been upheld, giving the green light for a £55 million, 23-turbine development at Achany, near Lairg.
