Wind farm seen for pass

Yverdon-les-Bains and four nearby communities have unveiled a plan to erect 12 wind-powered turbines to generate electricity. Driven by large propellors mounted on towers, the machines would provide enough electricity for a community of 25,000 people. The 150-meter-high towers would be located on property in the Mollendruz pass owned jointly by Yverdon and the communities of Mont-la-Ville, La Praz, Juriens and Vaulion.

The project was presented last night to residents of the communities. The project involves the city of Zurich’s power company (EWZ), which would buy the electricity, and a Lausanne consultant, KohlNusbaumer, in charge of a feasibility study. A company to operate the wind farm has yet to be established. The project is just one in a series envisaged for Swiss regions along the foot of the Jura Mountains.
