The Oregon Department of Energy plans a public comment period on the proposed Shepherds Flat Wind Farm in Gilliam and Morrow counties.
Caithness Shepherds Flat LLC has completed a site certificate application for the project, which is expected to involve up to 303 wind turbines with a generating capacity of 909 megawatts.
John White of the energy department said the project area is on private land between Oregon Highways 19 and 74 about five miles southeast of Arlington.
White said the applicant hasn’t selected a turbine type, but he expects the towers to range up to 492 feet high with blades attached.
In addition to the wind turbines, the facility would include approximately 57 miles of access roads, two field workshops, two substations, six meteorological towers, 17 miles of transmission lines, 103 miles of collector lines and a communications system, White said.
The state has opened a comment period for state agencies, tribes and local governments. It closes Jan. 10. White said the state will conduct a public hearing after the energy department issues its draft order.
The application and other documents relating to the Shepherds Flat project are available for public review at the Gilliam County Library, 310 S. Main St., Condon; at the Arlington Public Library, 500 W. First St., and at the Boardman Library, 200 S. Main St.
