Wind project waiting for green light

An agreement that could make Valley County the site of one of the most advanced wind farms in the United States is awaiting approval by the Chinese government, according to The Glasgow Courier.

GreenHunter Energy Inc., a Grapevine, Texas-based developer, announced the pending acquisition of interest in People’s Republic of China-based MingYang Wind Power, which will soon be one of the largest manufacturers of wind turbines in China, according to the report.

Turbine shortages are one of the biggest obstacles to development of wind power in the U.S., and GreenHunter’s subsidiary, Wind Hunter LLC, has agreed to purchase more than 900 megawatts of turbines in the 1.5 megawatt size from 2008-2012, officials said.

A news release from the company said that one wind energy site already under development in the United States, possibly the Valley County site, will be the recipient of its first construction project.
