No regrets

I’m responding to the Welcomes Windmills letter on Dec. 2
As much as Rodger Irons rants and raves about his love of wind turbines, his property rights and his and Gamesa’s right to destroy Shaffer Mountain, he must believe that with his deed to 40 acres of land atop Shaffer Mountain came “dictatorial” powers as to his, his and his! I don’t think so!

Although myself and Mr. Irons share a common property line – this is all we have in common.

His quote, “See, the real difference is that I want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.” Also, the fact is that I had been seeking the advantage of sitting wind farms on my property long before Gamesa came around. I want them built on my land.” Also “(Readers take note: It’s not Gamesa that keeps bringing up the fact that turbines won’t be placed on Mr. Cominsky’s property, it’s Mr. Cominsky himself. Maybe he regrets his decision. He should.)”

He says he wants to be part of the solution – is this what he calls the solution – destruction of pristine wilderness, the Windber Area Authority Watershed, tow exceptional value trout streams, as well as the bird, fish and wildlife and eco-system of Shaffer Mountain. He also says that his primary reasons for buying those 40 acres was to build wind farms. Well, Mr. Irons, you put in print what I have suspected for years.

Mr. Irons, your “spin” is nothing more than personal greed, the “Almighty Dollar”, when it comes to Shaffer Mountain! You bring this out wholeheartedly in your quote above, “Readers take note.” You state, Mr. Irons, that I should regret my decision of not signing a lease with Gamesa and placing wind turbines on my property, you even insinuate that maybe I regret my decision; nothing could be further from the truth.

That’s the real difference between myself and you, I believe in leaving something “unspoiled” for future generation. My legacy is not $5,000 per wind turbine, per year, as is yours. My legacy is to protect the natural beauty of Shaffer Mountain from hypocrites such as you. With you Mr. Irons – It’s all about money and nothing more.

Joseph J. Cominsky
