The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has scheduled two public hearings on whether wind farms should be built on public lands.
The evening hearings are set for Jan. 23 in Grantsville and Jan. 24 in Annapolis.
The hearings stem from requests from private developers, including Pennsylvania-based U.S. Wind Force, to lease hundreds of acres of state forestland on western Maryland mountaintops for construction of scores of 40-story windmills.
DNR Secretary John Griffin says it is critical for Maryland citizens to “have a voice in the decision-making process that could forever change our rural landscape.”
