On Wednesday, December 12, Wilmington voters will decide the course of the town’s participation in the Public Service Board permitting process for the proposed industrial wind power development in the Green Mountain National Forest. Please attend to discuss and vote on this issue that will affect us for decades.
Personally, I strongly oppose this project as unproductive for the tiny amount of power produced. The only reasons for its construction are the tax credits and massive tax subsidies we taxpayers will give PPM Energy, a Scottish congolmerate. As with the 10-year-old Searsburg wind turbines, the proposed giant turbines will inevitably become obsolete, the tax credits will be used outside Vermont, and we will be left with the relics.
This project will dominate our ridgelines and the natural beauty that we love. The 17 turbines will be 410 feet tall with flashing strobe lights—they will totally dominate the landscape to an extent hard to imagine. If these are such a great addition to our energy future, why aren’t they proposed for Camels Hump or Mount Mansfield?
