Seminar to discuss Auchencorth Moss wind farm proposal

Midlothian Council is to hold a special planning seminar in Penicuik next week to gather more information about the controversial plans for a wind farm south of the town.

E.ON UK Limited is seeking permission to erect 18 turbines on Auchencorth Moss, an area of open countryside between West Linton, Leadburn and Penicuik.

The seminar, which will be held in Penicuik Town Hall at 10am, will not be a public meeting although members of the public will be entitled to watch proceedings. Representatives of E.ON and objectors have been invited to address the committee.

The application will be determined at a later planning committee meeting.

In recent months, councillors visited a wind farm site, near Wishaw, and attended a seminar, which was addressed by Maf Smith, the director of the Sustainable Development Commission Scotland.

Meanwhile, Midlothian councillors are already gathering information ahead of Scottish Water submitting plans for a water treatment works to treat Edinburgh’s drinking water.

Lib Dem Councillor Ken Brown told last month’s meeting of Penicuik and District Community Council that there had been a visit by elected members to a similar treatment works at Milngavie. “I was quite impressed with the way they have managed to disguise this tank. It looks like a field with one or two vents.
