Harpswell considers wind farm

The town of Harpswell is investigating the feasibility of building a wind farm near the peak of Long Reach Mountain.

A preliminary assessment of the town-owned property shows a ridgeline near the 200-foot peak could support three or four 1.5-megawatt turbines.

However, the proposal is far from a done deal. A wind study would need to be done before the project is presented to Harpswell residents for approval at their March 2008 town meeting.

Under the plan, the town would lease the land to a private developer.
