Fears proposed Silverton wind farm may deter film-makers

The tourism manager for Broken Hill City Council says her greatest concern with the Silverton wind farm is not for tourism, but its impact on the film industry.

Mixed emotions have surrounded the proposed development of the $2 billion wind farm, with some saying it will deter tourists from far western New South Wales.

Fiona Ellis says this will not be the case, but measures need to be taken to minimise the effect on the aesthetics of the Mundi Mundi plains, to keep it attractive to film-makers.

“We’ve actually talked to Epuron having an interpretive site for the turbines and also we’ll negotiate hopefully with one of the landowners to have a turbine that the tourists can actually go up and have a look at,” she said.
